Should I get a camera with an AF illuminator?
What exactly is it?

When you look at this picture of the 9000 – as you see it to the upper left of the lens there’s a glass eye sort of thing. That’s the illuminator.
Instead of a pre-flash which my Rebel XS uses, the 9000 shines a green light on your subject in low light and uses that to grab focus.
It’s very effective and works quite well.
An Illuminati then replaces the pre-flash. Some prefer this system, I do. I don’t especially like the pre-flash on my XS but it’s such a great camera that I put up with it.
