Wednesday, January 27th, 2010How to wire up an Illuminated Vandal Resistant Switch?
I have a momentary vandal resistant swittch which i intend to use in an electronic project, what i would like to know is in order to get the LED to light up once the switch is turned on… There are 5 pins the 2 on the the outside are the + and – these are for the LED itself and the 3 in the middle are for the switch.. How do i wire the pins to get the desired effect?
It is possible that 2 of the 3 middle pins are labelled as well, with NC (for Normally Closed) and NO (for Normally Open). If so, you are in luck. The centre pin will be connected to the NC pin until you push the button, when it will connect to the NO pin instead. If there are no markings you will have to use a meter to identify the continuities.
There may possibly be a resistor in to protect the LED already, but unlikely. Check the documentation for the switch, if any or do a resistance check. Otherwise you must put in a resistor appropriate for your working voltage. Connect the resistor between the + and the NO contact.
